On the 19th of March the Kandurata (Hill Country) Women’s Forum, members of WDC’s Network of Women (NoW) commemorated International Women’s Day at the WDC headquarters. Women from 17 divisions within the district of Kandy participated at this event. The guest speaker for the morning session was conducted by Dr. Mallika Pinnawela for the National Savings Bank (NSB) who spoke about the challenges women face and methods f overcoming these challenges within society.
The evening session was done by head inspector for women and child affairs in the Kandy district Ms. Janaki Kumari Senevirathne, who addressed the issues of Gender Based Violence (GBV), Child abuse, and also spoke about the services made available through the Police in dealing with these issues. She also spoke about the responsibility the Police has in ensuring justice and protection of survivors of violence.
